We Rise! Workers' Leadership Academy

The We Rise! Worker Leadership Academy is a bilingual national leadership development program that invests in Black, Brown, immigrant, and frontline worker leaders building safer, healthier, and more just workplaces. Since launching in 2022, We Rise! has brought together workers from across the country representing industries and communities heavily impacted by unsafe working conditions, retaliation, heat exposure, dangerous chemicals, wage theft, and other workplace hazards. Participants include day laborers, car wash workers, nail salon workers, temporary workers, warehouse and service workers, formerly incarcerated workers, and immigrant worker leaders.

Through year-round leadership development, organizing training, political education, and peer learning, workers strengthen their skills to organize, advocate, and lead change in their workplaces and communities.

Building Worker Power Through Action

What makes We Rise! unique is its focus on real-world impact. Worker leaders develop projects and campaigns rooted in the needs of their communities and build worker power by:

  • advancing heat protection and workplace safety campaigns,
  • supporting anti-retaliation and worker justice policies,
  •  organizing multilingual worker rights and health and safety trainings,
  •  engaging media, employers, and policymakers,
  •  building worker committees and community partnerships,
  •  and leading actions honoring workers killed and injured on the job.

Following graduation, National COSH continues supporting Rising Leaders through mentorship, organizing opportunities, peer learning, and ongoing leadership development, helping build a long-term national network of worker leaders advancing health, safety, dignity, and justice on the job.
